Research Focus

The Immersive Creation Lab at NJIT explores the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction, AR/VR, and Artifical Intelligence, with a focus on designing and building tools that empower people to create rich, engaging, and expressive interactive experience. Current research topics include:

  • Content Creation Tools: We aim to explore new paradigms in AR/VR content creation (e.g., redefining workflows from 3D modeling and spatial interface design to programming and collaboration). These paradigms should be scalable, supporting increasingly complex experiences and larger communities.
  • Human-AI Interaction: The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers a new lens for us to examine human creativity. We aim to explore intuitive interactions and interface design for content creation where AI augments, rather than replaces, human. This involves applying machine learning models in different contexts and exploring the balance between human creativity, user agency, and machine automation.
  • Immersive Social Interactions: Immersive technologies like AR and VR hold unique potential to deepen human connections -- whether in work settings or personal relationships. In this line of research, we design and build social AR/VR systems and study how they could positively impact people’s communication and social interactions.

Open Positions

PhD Positions

Our lab will have 1-2 PhD positions open for Fall 2026. We are looking for motivated students interested in Human-Computer Interaction, AR/VR, and creativity support tools. Ph.D. students at NJIT are typically fully funded with full tuition, health insurance, travel funding opportunities, and a generous stipend. Ideal candidates should have significant experiences with AR/VR technologies, and demonstrate strong programming skills. If interested, you should put my name in your research statement while applying for our Ph.D. program. Feel free to drop me any questions via email.

Research Interns

We welcome research interns year-round. Undergraduate and Master's students interested in HCI research are encouraged to reach out via email. Please include your CV and a brief statement about why you're interested in our research, along with the proposed duration of your internship.
